Weaving A Soulful Tapestry: Honey Cone
Posted by Junior
Honey Cone: From: Soulful Sugar: The Complete Hot Wax Recordings More sweet soul from the seventies today with female trio Honey Cone's 1971 album Soulful Tapestry. Playing on the title of Carole King's Tapestry, the band focus their singing on the issue of heartbreak with great vocals by all band member's particularly lead singer Edna Wright. Released on Hot Wax, the combination of great songs and the production power of Holland Dozier Holland should have been a guarantee of success and while The Honey Cone's Want Ads was a justifiably big hit the group really never had the kind of long term sales that their music suggests was in store. As mentioned above Want Ads is a massive massive tune, similar in style to the Jackson 5 songs of that era with that blend of horns blazing pop and soul crafted to perfection. Who's It Gonna Be displays the grown soul aspect of the group and the level of maturity they had reached by this album, great vocals again by Edna and love the gospel swirling style of the music. Beautiful song. It seems like it's not an easy task these days to even pick up a greatest hits of these ladies so I'm sharing these today at 320kbps but if you stumble upon their output don't delay in purchasing with extreme haste.
