Jay.soul- I agree about the "let's loop a 1 or 2 bar section" comment. Too much recent rap music relies on this formula, but the old-school stuff usually keeps it real. although if the sample and break are hot, you can't really go wrong there either. Maybe I need to revisit that second 3rd Bass joint again.

G Bogs: Ain't no Half Steppin' is an awesome idea for an Anatomy of a Sample post. Thanks for dropping by. Be on the lookout for this Big Daddy Kane sample post soon.

Paul D: Thanks for letting me know about the BT Express synth sample. Now I'm on a mission to find that sample. Also, yeah that is Schooly D with the part that goes "Lookin at my gucci it's about that time". That was an oversight. Thanks for clearing this up.

Best to all, Kevin

Just saw this mentioned on Soul Sides. The spacey synth in the chorus is from a track on the sample-laden 'Do It' album by BT Express. Can't remember the name of the track but the sample is from the intro. And you're missing Schoolly's 'Gucci Time' from the rap samples in the chorus ("it's about that time" - also used in the Beasties tune).

interesting to see it disected in so much detail. always one of my favorite 3rd bass songs. great to see that way more work went into a song like this than a lot of straightforward "let's loop a 1 or 2 bar section and add some beefed up drums" hip-hop.
side note: i didn't think 2nd album was lackluster at all, but hey :)

I'm glad that you dug it Junior. I think it's good that fellow "fuzzies" send a shout to each other every now and then when we really like the post. I hope to be able to post more often than every couple months, but I'm happy with the way this one turned out.

Thanks kled. I'm glad you liked what you heard/read.

Josh: Thanks for the kind words. As far as J-live's "the Upgrade", I'll have to check it out to see if I can figure out where the samples originated. What is the name of the J-live record?
